Tank the trapeze artist

February 2nd, 2010 by rach3

Some of the result of another Dr Sketchy’s session, but only the ones where the anatomy construction wasn’t quite so shonky! Trapeze artist/burlesque dancer, in various stages of undress, either in calligraphic felt-tip pen or lithographic crayon.

And this one won me a $10 voucher for [Redacted] Bookshop (way cool, because I pretty much never win anything!):

Looking at these again, most of them could do with a ground line, they’re just floating around on the page…

under the sea

October 19th, 2009 by rach3

Part of the aftermath of a Sunday arvo spent scribbling furiously in an artfully dingy bar - old-school bathing beauty turned mermaid meets girl with blue fringe and octopus-tentacle skirt…

non, je ne regrette rien

Another round of Dr Sketchy’s, censored by default rather than design (did some good work right at the start and towards the end, and some very shonky anatomy construction in between!). Maybe I’ll do some digital painting over the sketches. Promises, promises…

not Toulouse-Lautrec

October 31st, 2008 by rach3

So I discovered this thing called Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, which is like life drawing but with burlesque dancers and circus freakshows for models. My snappy black trenchcoat and I were sadly out of place in the charmingly dingy little bar, and I have a strong suspicion that drawing burlesque dancers is much more fun if you’re not stone cold sober, but what can you do if you don’t drink and have rocked up to a bohemian venue straight from work. The models: Limber l’Amour, burlesque contortion rhythmic en-pointe, (Sir?) Antonio Alessandro, and his double bass. And an orange Jack-o-Lantern candy basket!
