Taking another stab at the annual Koko Black fill-in-the-blank art contest. What’s rising up out of the giant crater? Blurry mobile phone pics to follow!

And so the Monthly Gargoyles Contest is at its last-ever edition. I’d only ever entered a handful of times, not being a particularly avid fan of the Gargs, and also being a champion procrastinator … but inspiration has just struck 4 days before I fly out for my Christmas break, and fingers crossed I’ll get it done in the next 3 or 4 evenings.
Theme from November 2006, ‘Black and White’. Odette, Odile, white, black, grey. The idea’s been kicking around my head for years, off and on.

First up, self-portrait of the artist wearing a tutu for the first time in her life, grinning stupidly from ear to ear *crosses “wear a tutu” off unofficial list of things to do before turning 30*

And the least shonky of a series of sketches, done after watching a cinema screening of Giselle (Royal Ballet, starring Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg). I was the only person in the cinema under 30, and maybe one of 8 people under 60! Sadly, no drawing of mine will capture the exquisite fluidity and lightness of Alina Cojocaru…

Progress sketches for an MGC entry (Paper Dolls being the theme!). I’ve been having this terrible impulse to draw something frilly and floofy a la Aimee Major. Hopefully I’ll have gotten it out of my system by the time this is finished!

Just amusing myself on a 90-minute train ride to a site visit. Most of it is random stream-of-consciousness scribbles, but the horse was from life (went past a lot of farms!)… and just as an afterthought, the sliding door I was supposed to be thinking about on the train!
Oh, and the building’s coming up nicely. It has steel frames and a first floor and stairs and some walls.

…and one very wonky dish, but I’ve run out of steam for now. Inspired by Ratatouille - the food just looked so good in the movie!

…because my eyes are a bit overstrained from going back to 8-hour workdays at the computer, and also because I keep reaching for Ctrl-Z even when not drawing with the wacom
Rough sketches for a hypothetical project (Red Riding Hood as a pas de deux…and yes it’s meant to be more than slightly disturbing!)
